Environment Investment Network
Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has said that Welsh
companies have a major role to play in tackling the challenge of
climate change, at the launch of the Environmental Investment
Network in Wales.
He said that current moves could place Wales at the forefront of
the development of vital environmental technologies - which will
help both meet targets of reduced impact on the environment, and
also boost the economy.
"With a global market for environmental goods & services
estimated to be worth £350 billion by 2010, huge opportunities
await innovative businesses", said Mr Jones, who is Minister for
the Economy & Transport.
"Wales already has over 1,300 companies in its rapidly growing
environmental goods & services sector, which now employs
22,000 people and has a total annual turnover of £1.2 billion.
"The Welsh Assembly Government will continue our support for
this crucial sector – and in line with the commitment made in the
One Wales agreement we are developing an all-Wales green jobs
strategy, details of which will be announced later this year.
